When stress hits—when the world feels too loud or the environmental toxins feel too heavy—that is the moment to start humming. It is the fastest way to drop out of the cell danger response, calm a scattered, overwhelmed mind and step back into the safety of your physical temple.
The Science of the Cell Danger Response: Why Fasting Fails in a Crisis
For the health detectives out there looking at the data, let’s talk about the foundation of cellular repair: The Cell Danger Response (CDR). When your body detects a threat—whether it is environmental mould, synthetic chemical toxicity, emotional trauma or chronic stress—your cells actively harden their membranes.
They stop producing energy, halt normal metabolism and drop into a defensive lockdown and why I had a bloated Buddha Belly life long as a primal personal trainer.
Your human animal must understand this: Healing only happens in a paused, calm state. If your nervous system is trapped in chronic fight-or-flight, your cells are stuck in CDR. Trying to force a prolonged, multi-day water fast while locked in this danger response causes more harm than good. The body perceives the lack of food as an additional life-threatening stressor, spiking cortisol and exhausting the adrenals.
You cannot starve a cell that is already fighting for its life. The system must first know it is finally safe to pause, drop its guard and heal. We do this by clearing synthetic scents, grounding our feet to Mother Earth and using the physical vibration of humming to switch the vagus nerve back into rest-and-digest mode.

Your brain is your most energy-hungry organ. You are energy so you must be deeply mindful of what you are nurturing that energy with. The truth is, the only true fuel needed—the only fluids and energy that sustain us—come straight from Mother Earth.
We live in an overfed, undernourished society. For decades, listening to the body’s unique rhythm rather than a clock has been the only way I survived after 30 years of HEAVY drinking. This is how my lifestyle can be sustained on just $100 a month for food today.
But let’s be completely transparent about what it means to live on $100 a month for food when you are invisible to the system.
You might know what it feels like to not qualify for disability because there is not a single OHIP doctor who can diagnose environmental illness here in Canada’s Capital.
Conventional medicine simply does not have the diagnostic tools and the disability sector doesn’t even know what this biology is. I just wanted a pee test for toxin levels and they don’t have the tools. Functional medicine does because Mother Nature is our medicine cabinet.
And why is a diagnosis impossible? Because living a clean life, taking no medications and treating the body like a temple means labs come back completely clean.
On paper standard tests can’t find anything “wrong.”
When it has been this way for a lifetime, the system’s immediate default is to claim it is all mental.
Imagine presenting an active autonomic flare right there in the doctor’s office, only for the physician to look at the charts, look away, nod and ask your partner, “Is this mental?”
A simple nod yes and off you are sent for another mental health evaluation where you end up being the teacher because you already know how to heal c-ptsd responses holistically.
A lifelong fear of doctors is a natural response when you witness how they treat mothers and children. So you stop going. You search for the root cause on your own.
The system fails people like us because we make up only 1.1% of the population. We are the High Sensing Souls whose nervous systems and cellular blueprints do not fit into mass-produced clinical boxes. Because they cannot measure this precision with their outdated tools, they write us off.
Survival forces you to become your own doctor.
And for the parentified Souls who grew up showing up as people-pleasers, serving to survive and leading a life of love, a heavy truth remains.
You can pour love into so many souls, yet not a single one asks how you are doing over a two-year period while you grow weaker each day.

It is the kind of profound exhaustion that led my son Noah and me to sit down and hold each other through one of the most tender, difficult conversations a mother and child can have.
We had to softly face the reality of this physical temple growing weaker. I looked at my beautiful boy and told him with all the love in my heart that there won’t be a funeral.
I am choosing to donate my body to science so they can take care of the rest and lift that final earthly burden from his shoulders.
Even through that grief, those loved ones who drifted away are still held daily in Loving Kindness prayers. It is a gentle realization that souls who are disconnected from their own inner child care simply cannot connect vulnerably with another.
When isolation by the world feels that heavy, your daily nourishment becomes your ultimate sanctuary. If the world will not protect your biology, you must protect it yourself with what you put into your temple.
Mainstream perspectives will look at eating once a day and relying on just five safe foods to survive a distressed belly as an eating disorder.
But that one meal a day triggers autophagy—the body’s natural cellular cleanup—which is exactly what keeps a system alive through years of heavy stress or heavy drinking. When the body actually needs nourishment, it is fed. It is never deprived but it is rarely hungry.
Fun Fact: Longer fasts when fighting something actually provide more energy. To be completely clear, this means a strict water fast supported by raw, healing teas.
In moments of absolute crisis, I did a three-week fast with a 1/4 tsp of baking soda, this gives the system the space to completely overhaul itself.
But this can only happen when the nervous system has been safely paused and calmed out of the Cell Danger Response.
We stay in bed with the DBM-5 to cry out stored trauma, I cried for 7 weeks, it is a sacred time to rest and to only serve you and your cells. The DBM-5 course is on Youtube as well for the health detectives.
When the body is properly regulated, a 3–5 day water and healing tea fast once a month when needed is the magic window for deep cellular healing for women.
It takes roughly 72 hours for a down-regulated nervous system to safely signal the immune system to clear out old white blood cells and regenerate new ones without triggering a spike in cortisol.
For men, the biological timeline behaves differently due to a distinct hormonal baseline. The optimal window for this deep cellular and immune reset typically peaks around a 3-day fast, hitting that sweet spot between 48 and 72 hours where stem cell activation peaks.
Alignment with these natural laws changes everything. It happened for me in May 2019, a date that completely altered my lifelong work and became what is called a true Microbiome Milestone.
After choosing sobriety in 2017, the time came to enter a specialized outpatient program for mental health in 2019 because I was wanting to expire before I desired.
The conventional system laid out its strict rules and dictated a long three-year timeline for eating disorder recovery, especially with the clinical odds stacked against a woman over 50.
But right at that exact same moment, in May 2019, landmark, massive research on the human microbiome was published. It felt like a direct wink from Mother Earth, confirming what intuition already deeply knew: our gut, our stools and our mental health are all completely connected through the microbiomental axis.
By quietly ignoring their rigid timelines, treating the gut as the absolute foundation and working with biology, that heavy three-year recovery sentence was cut by two-thirds.
There was no need to stay trapped in their system for three years. Graduation came in just one year in March 2020 when COVID hit and I have been serving silent observers in crisis, silently each day ever since.
