Reflections, fun facts and a new song for the August Sturgeon Moon
Grandmother Sky is illuminating the night sky tonight!
Tonight (August 28th) brings us the sacred Sturgeon Moon, which is the final full moon of summer and features a deep partial lunar eclipse. Traditionally named by Indigenous peoples in the Great Lakes region after the abundance of sturgeon fish in late summer, this full moon serves as a natural tipping point. It is a sacred time for charging your medicine moon water, releasing old energy and thanking Mother Earth.
I wrote a love song called “Moon, Moon, Shine your light on me” (Silver River of Glow) as a prayer to Grandmother Sky, Grandfather Sun and Mother Earth.
Charging water under this moon captures the grounding energy of Mother Earth, the light of Grandfather Sun reflected through Grandmother Sky and the healing medicine of water.
