Why the HS “Perfect” Athlete is Drowning: The Biological Truth of Addiction

The Sober Soul Care Sunday Proclamation 🕊️
This is for the highly sensitive peacekeeper, the problem solver and the people pleaser. It is for the perfectionist and the procrastinator who felt parentified, petrified and found themselves drowning in mould toxins and addictions.
It isn’t you; it’s your environment. It is the toxic air we breathe while pushing our bodies to their absolute limits. It is the toxic souls we love deeply who will never truly see us or love us back—until we walk away and redirect that love to ourselves. We must heal our inner child and our toxic womb (the body).
If you are drowning in shame, know that I did too for 30 years as a personal trainer who should know better until I found my “why” in 2017. I chose to live in peace, no longer hooked by my thoughts, and I took my power back for addiction peace.
Why the Highly Sensitive Soul Struggles with Addiction
For the Human Canary, addiction is often a biological trap, not a moral failing:
The MTHFR Trap: Mutations like MTHFR can lead to a “Dopamine Gap,” making the brain starve for the “okay” feeling that substances temporarily provide.
CIRS & MCAS: Mould toxicity (CIRS) and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS) create a “cytokine storm” of neuro-inflammation.
Histamine Overload: Alcohol is high in histamine and blocks the enzymes that clear it, leading to “internal vibrations,” brain fog and dark thoughts.
Systemic Harm: For a highly sensitive body, booze acts as “metabolic sludge,” overwhelming a liver already struggling to clear biotoxins.
We need to stop talking about labels and start talking about sanctuary. When your ‘histamine bucket’ is overflowing from toxic walls and toxic souls, your body screams for relief. I found my way out through root-cause truth and reparenting my inner child.
As we begin #BellLetsTalk week, let’s move the conversation from ‘what’s wrong with you’ to ‘what happened to your environment?’
The Root-Cause Bridge: It’s not mental. It’s Environmental.
If you want your doctor to get to the root cause of your issues, I created a letter for you to bring to your appointment. It includes the specific tests to ask for—the ones that look deeper than the “standard” labs that have been dismissing your pain for years.
You can find the letter and the test list here:
The Silent Observer’s SOS
Here is a SOS grid I made for the 15-20% of us—the silent observers. If you feel comfy, please share your emoji in the comments below at Dee’s Dharma.
You are not alone.
